ISLINGTON TOWN HALL WEDDING

ISLINGTON TOWN HALL WEDDING WITH CANONBURY TAVERN RECEPTION

Kat and Chris’s wedding was a particularly special union. The couple have lived apart for so long; successfully growing their relationship from across the Atlantic; with Kat in London and Chris living in the states. Their wedding was long awaited; overcoming visa issues and other similar bumps along the way, they were finally able to say ‘I do’ surrounded by their family and friends.

Their ceremony took place at Islington Town Hall; this is one of my favourite wedding venues in London for a civil ceremony. The Richmond Suite was their room of choice with it’s gorgeous wood panelling and huge windows that fill the room with natural light (perfect for wedding photography!) I have shot many weddings in the Town Hall’s impressive council chamber but the Richmond Suite has so much charm of it’s own and a more traditional aisle and seating layout. The Richmond Suite has newly reopened after been closed during the pandemic. Kat and Chris were actually the first couple to get married here following its reopening and what a gorgeous start!

Kat arrived at Islington Town Hall accompanied by her five bridesmaids all in varying shades of green, each wearing a dress they had selected themselves. Kat wore an exquisite dress by Katya Katya in delicate Chantilly lace that conveyed beautiful nostalgic vibes. Kat paired her dress with her mums ivory satin wedding shoes which were still absolutely pristine and were the perfect sentimental accessory for Kat’s vintage look.

As the guests made their way out on to the town hall steps for their ‘big exit’ after the ceremony, Kat and Chris had some relaxed portraits in Islington Town Hall’s beautiful marble corridors with the gorgeous Art Deco features.

Islington Town Hall is renowned for it’s iconic steps and those joyful confetti shots that seem to optimise a town hall wedding! For me, a big, bold confetti shot is essential. It encompasses all of the adrenaline and elation built up inside. The steps are the perfect place to do this, followed by any group shots in front of the Town Hall afterwards.

Their reception took place nearby at The Canonbury Tavern. A fabulous location for a relaxed celebration in the heart of Islington. The happy couple and guests made their way on foot, a perfect opportunity to get some candid portraits against a backdrop Islington’s iconic Georgian architecture. We made a pitstop at Canonbury square gardens for some more shots of Kat and Chris. A good walking route with a pretty location worked in is such a great opportunity to get some beautiful portraits whilst working with the flow of your day.

Upstairs in the Blue Room at The Canonbury Tavern speeches took place as guests enjoyed drinks. Each speech filled with emotion and with each I grew to learn more about Kat and Chris and their relationship along with the years spent living apart making their relationship work. I have such admiration for their commitment to each other and their determination to be together despite the distance between them. Love like that is rare and it was such a pleasure to be able to capture it.
