THE RISE OF THE ALL IMPORTANT BRIDAL SPEECH…
We are very much in the era of the woman....The independent, freethinking, inspiring woman. Until recent years the speech was the territory of the man; the father, the groom, the best man. Whilst it is totally understandable for a bride to want sit back, relax, listen and enjoy after all of the painstaking planning (because she will have done ALOT of it!)... there are an increasing number of brides who want their say and want to throw traditional roles out of the window, because after all...it’s their day too! They want to thank their guests, regale them with unheard stories about their groom and most of all tell their new spouse what they mean to them... and why shouldn’t they?! Given that they are 50% of that relationship, starting as they mean to go on with all things equal makes perfect sense.
But where does a bride start with this mammoth task..... should she be funny, should be be heartfelt? I say be you, relax and don’t be afraid of imperfection. Everyone in that room is a friend (hopefully!) and they are rooting for you!
Whether you are an opposite or same sex couple, it seems only fair that both parties have the opportunity to take the stage if they want to. However, this modern approach can ultimately instil fear in the hearts of bestmen everywhere.... because let’s face it, women can be pretty damn funny.
